Our History

The Bay Foodbank was founded in 2012 by a group of locals who wanted to provide practical support to people facing hardship in North Tyneside. What began as a small community project operating from a storeroom in Whitley Bay has grown into one of the largest independent foodbanks in the UK.

Over the years, increasing demand has seen the charity expand its services, moving to larger premises in North Shields and developing additional programmes to support local people. Alongside providing emergency food parcels, The Bay Foodbank now supports school breakfast clubs, food waste reduction initiatives, and works with partner organisations to help address the underlying causes of food insecurity.

Since its founding, The Bay Foodbank has provided tens of thousands of emergency food parcels and continues to support individuals and families across North Tyneside during times of crisis.
